A Beautiful Gambrel Shed Plan

The Gambrel shed is an amazing shed design that is made for more space. The larger volume roof isn't just for looks, it is designed to make a large amount of storage space. The loft adds an additional 144 square feet of storage space with an average of about 4 feet of headroom. For doors and windows it has 6' wide double doors on the shorter 12' long wall and a single man door on the 16' wall. Two windows are on the wall opposite the man door and one window on the man door wall. .

The roof overhangs on the small barn shed are about 6 inches on the eve walls and 12 inches on the gable ends.

The plans are included to build the shed doors and the framing on the shed will accomodate either factory build doors or home built shed doors.

  • Floor: 2x6 floor joists with 3/4" floor sheathing.
  • Walls Framing: 2x4 framing at 16" on center with a double top plate, just like a home is framed.

    • Side Door - 3'-0" x 6'-8"
  • Siding: T-111 exterior siding. Other sidings such as vinyl or cement based sidings may be used.
  • Roof: The roof is framed using 2x4's to build the trusses. It is sheeted with 1/2" O.S.B. The plans give you the dimensions and cut angles so you can build the roof rafters on the ground and then put them up on the top plates.
  • Roof Pitch: 7/12 and 12/7
  • Roof Overhang: 6" on the eves and 12" on the gable ends
  • Roofing: 25 year asphalt shingles.

  • Trim: 1x4 and 1x6 wood, masonite or cement trim materials are used to finish the corners, roof eves and facia, and door.
